    Hello everyone!

Thank you for all the great introductions! Now we come to Rap Point 1. On this section of the rap, you use the above questions about memories to help you prepare a Rap Response (or blog entry) from your group.

Use all three dot points to brainstorm your group’s jointly-constructed reply, or perhaps focus on one section. It all depends on how much time each week you can devote to book rapping. Make sure to edit your work before pressing “Submit Comment”.

As the responses grow over the week, you might have time to post another blog entry, replying to your favourite Rap Responses of the other school groups.

There will soon be a link to a special Wiki page, where you can have a go at adding your group’s favourite memory item to Wilfrid’s basket of memories. This is an additional activity – but, for now, just concentrate on your jointly-constructed text. We can’t wait to read your ideas!

Memories help you remember your friends. Memories help you to remember important things in your life. Some people keep a secret memory box under their bed. Some people keep their memories in a diary with a special padlock and key. (If you lose the key it’s like losing your memory!)

Here are our favourite memories of 2008 so far:

Nursery rhymes on the school library wiki; watching the Smoking Ceremony on National Sorry Day; earning five lollies in one day (today!); making chains of paper doll friends; reading three “Deltora Quest” novels; going to SRC meetings; playing soccer; and doing harder dictations in Year 2. Also, remembering that today is the 29th day of February, which only happens every four years!

One of us has a rock with an Aboriginal painting on it. It is almost shaped like a boomerang and it has three kangaroos painted on it. This rock reminds us of where we were (in the assembly hall) on National Sorry Day. We thought we might see some Aboriginal dancers but instead it was politicians talking. Some of us us remember being in Parliament House in Canberra when we were on holidays two years ago. The painted rock was a souvenir from a Canberra museum.

    Happy memories!

    Hello

Our class memory is we had to lockdown because there were six bells. We had to get under the tables because outside there was danger. Now when the blinds are shut and the bells ring we remember the lockdown.

    Hello
If we didn’t have memories we might forget to come to school. Memories are very special otherwise we may forget our friends and family.
Some 2008 memories for 1/2O are: the story of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch and making lighthouses; on the the 1st day of school we were a bit sad when we had to change classes and some of us have started to play a musical instrument.

    Memories are important:
    so we can learn things
so we can remember important events like birthdays
so we can remember our name and where we live
so we can remember important rules for safety
so we can remember what things we need to do
so we remember to do this book rap every week
and because memories are the story of our life.

Our class’s special memory of the year so far is doing craft with our teacher Ms Bailey. We made a picture of a sailing boat using coloured matchsticks and coloured popsticks. We glued them on with PVA glue to a background made of wavy patterns cut from blue paper. We had lots of fun making the sailing boats.

We decided that a little toy wooden sailing boat would be suitable to represent this memory.

Hope you enjoyed our memories…………and don’t forget them!!!!!!

    Hi rappers!

Wilfrid says “Thank you” for all the great Rap Responses to this Rap Point so far. Memories are great things to share.

Here’s the link to Wilfrid’s Wonderful Wiki, a bonus online activity you can try out during the week after your rap group has decided on their memory objects!

A wiki works a bit like a scrapbook, but on the Internet. Every group can have a turn adding their own ideas to the page. When you have voted to select your group’s favourite memory object, add it to Wilfrid’s basket of memories over on the wiki page.

You will need a special “invite key” (or secret password). It is wilfridwiki – make sure to spell Wilfrid’s name correctly when typing in the password.

But first, post your Rap Response here so we can read all your shared memories.

Our class’ special memory is donut day when we made donuts at school and ate them. It was such great delicious fun.

Memories are important so you can remember your families, your friends and your name. If you lose your memory you couldn’t remember anything and that would be sad.

Our class memory is of the Simpson’s Game. We sat in a circle and were given a name like Homer, Bart and Lisa. When Mrs K called our name we would run around as fast as we could. The last one back had to sit in the middle of the circle. The last person left outside the circle was the winner.

This is one of our first memories in 2/3K and it is a happy one.

    Hi Rappers!
Memories help us remember people we love; help us not make the same mistake twice; help us remember lots of different things and help us think about what happened a long time ago. Year 1 is learning about transport. 1D made a model sailing boat. A paper plate brings back this enjoyable memory. 1M made a model submarine and a bottle brings back this enjoyable memory.
That’s all from us on Rap Point 1!

1J says memories are important because:
We might forget our families, you need to remember things we’ve done, remember things you’ve done with people who have passed away, to remember sad things, when you leave home it’s good to remember your mum and dad, you don’t want to forget to go to school, you might forget your friends.

We remember going to the Nowra Show with Mrs Jones. We played throwing the ball with Auskick, we saw a fire engine and we saw baby animals and wood choppers.

We would use a helium filled balloon to remember this memory.

  11.   nowrarappers Says:

1H says memories are important because:
you might forget something you’ve done that’s really good. You wouldn’t be able to do journal writing without a memory. You need to remember your mum and dad. You don’t want to forget to go to school!

1H remembers when Grace brought in chocolate chip cookies. She bought them in for news, and we all got to eat them and learn about procedure texts. They tasted yummy!

The item we would use to remember the yummy cookies, would be Grace’s recipe.

1/2L think that memories are important bacuse they can help you learn from the past, especially when you talk to older people.

Our favourite memory so far from this year is when Miss Lark read us a ‘choose your own adventure’ story. it was very funny.

We chose a door as our ‘item’ to remember this special event, because we had to firstly choose which door our character would walk through for our story to take its first pathway.

  13.   nowrarappers Says:

2Q think memories are important because you might not remember anything. You can remember things of the past, and if someone had something happen to them that you had done, you could help them. You wouldn’t know who loved you. You would not know who were your friends or family. You wouldn’t know what bus to catch and you would miss it. The worst thing, you might forget how to read or write or draw!

2Q remember when our teacher Mr Quinell bought in a glue painting that he painted in the holidays. He showed us how he did it and then taught us how to do one.

The item that would help us remember Mr Quinell’s painting, would be any kind of painting with rocks and water on it.

  14.   nowrarappers Says:

2A knows that memories are important:

    - so you don’t lose your mum
    - so you know where you live and you won’t get lost
    - so you know where to drive
    - because you would forget what shop you’re in.
    - so you don’t get off at the wrong bus stop.

2A is so special, that every day we have to have good memories, to ring the bell. We ring the bell for recess lunch and home time.

The item that would help us remember this special responsibility would be the sound of the bell ringing.

Talk to you next week! Bye for now, 2A.

  15.   2pbloggers Says:

Memories are important because they help us to remember things that are special to us.

Our favourite memories so far this year include: meeting friends in our new class, getting different jobs and responsibilities allocated to us, learning about our ‘families’, making our portraits and family trees. Our family trees were a way we remember people in our families that have died.

These are just some of our memories of 2P so far.

Our special class memory from this year is the Welcome to Prep Party!!! At the prep party we drew pictures, did puzzles, played with playdough and ate party food.

We choose two items that will remind us of our special day, they are the friendship beads we made and the photos that were taken.

    Hi everyone,

Memories are secret stuff you need to know. Memories help you when you go shopping so you don’t forget what to buy. Signs on the door can help you remember, for example “No girls allowed!” A memory will help you remember where you put your school bag! Memories are when you remember birthdays. Memories can be important when we don’t want to forget what people are saying. If you lose your memory you can’t remember anything. SIC students are keeping a memory scrapbook of things we do at school.

Our favourite memories of 2008 so far: Clean Up Australia Day; parading our dancing dragons on Chinese New Year; making things out of recycled objects with Mrs McGregor; playing bingo in English; and drawing self-portraits in visual arts.

Mrs Kattell hung our self-portraits on the back wall. Every day we see the display we remember all our friends and the day we used oil pastels to make the artworks.

    Hi clever Wilfrid rappers
I am amazed how quickly your classes have been able to post their Rap Point 1 responses! We have already thought of many different reasons why memories are so important in our everyday lives!

The students and teachers at Caddies Creek Public School and I have been having great fun reading and sharing your special memories from so far this year.

We’ve had a great range of memories already decsribed including boat craft activities (Bluesea Rappers), school lock down (2H Bellybloggers Belmont PS), National Sorry Day (Penrith PS), The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch story and craft (1/2O Vardy’s Road PS) and Donut Day (yummy!!) (SLGS Rappers). Several classes from Nowra PS have been busy too sharing their special memories with us all.

The Simpson’s Game (2/3LK Belmont PS), model sailing boats (Glenhaven Rappers), family trees (Arncliffe PS), Welcome Prep Party (4/5 Rappers) and self portraits (Penrith PS) all sound so much fun!

It’s only the start of the year so imagine how many more special memories you will all have by the end of Term 4! (I hope you will be able to remember them all!)

Keep up the great work everyone and happy remembering!

    • Help us remember special places, times and people
    • Remember things from the past
    • Help us with our learning
    • Give us special feelings

Our special class memory this year is our class item at assembly. We sang a song about a tadpole which turned into a frog. We had actions to go with the song. We were very nervous but we all did a great job at the assembly. Our mums and dads came to watch us as well.

We thought that a toy frog would be a great way to remember our memory. Every time we see the toy frog it will remind us of our song that we sung at assembly.

We also share a similar memory with 2P from Nowra, as the K-2 bell is outside our room, so one of our class reponsibilities is to ring the bell. We all agreed thia would also be a special memory.

As a class 2TTooTerrific Rappers brainstormed why we thought memories were so important. Some of the reasons why we thought they were so important were:

    • They help us learn from our experiences
    • To share your experiences
    • To remember special people, pets, places and events
    • They give you things to think about
    • So you don’t forget things
    • To help you find things

We thought about a special memory that we had from school life so far this year and one thing that we all enjoyed doing was making Valentine Day Cards. We made them from paper and used tiny hearts and shavings from coloured pencils to decorate them.

To represent this special memory we chose a picture of a love heart with an arrow going through it.

Would love to hear from all the other rappers what they think about memories.

We think ‘memory’ is important because we think of things that make us happy and sad. Our memory helps us learn and understand.

We remember when Mrs H. brought Buddy, Said’s rabbit to 2k classroom. We remember him moulting when we patted him and he was twitching his nose to smell for danger. He hopped to the people wearing red.

It makes us feel happy like Miss Mitchell and warm like Mrs Jordan.

Memories are important because they help you to remember things from a long time ago. You can remember people who died a long time ago. We can learn from things we remember. You can forget your childhood.

We remember World Maths Day. We played maths games on the computer. There were a lot of adding questions. When you gave the right answer the coloured line moved up. If the line went right to the end you got more credit. We versed other children. Some were our friends at this school. Some were from different countries. Sometimes we versed the computer.

We chose a globe to represent this memory because there is a map of the world on the site.

We got to move our chairs, trays and reading boxes. Our work books from this year will help us to remember our work from Year 1 and Year 2 and that will help us remember the new classroom.

    Dear fellow bloggers,

We have had some great fun sharing and deciding on our favourite memories for the year so far and these are our top 5 memories from our class, we couldn’t decide on just one!

    1. The Seahorses Great Pillowslip Challenge – when we all had a pillow and a pillow slip on our knees and then we had to race each other to get the pillowslips on the pillows first. We use these in the book reading area.We would use a pillow and pillowslip

    2. Clyde our class mascot. Clyde is a toy dog and he is called Clyde because our classroom is on Clyde Street. Miss Smith brought for us and we get to take him home of Fridays for the weekends he is he is soft and fluffy and is tan and he has a beautiful brown bow. We will use Clyde or a photo of him.

    3. When we moved in a hurry from one room to a new one. We had to move in a hurry because Miss P (our Deputy principal) told us we had to form a new class and we had to move in the middle of maths groups and Miss Smith put everything into cardboard boxes, so we would use a cardboard box as a memory starter.

    4. The Red mat – it sits on the floor and we all sit on it. Miss Smith said that she had a surprise for us and the next day we had a beautiful red mat with cream swirls on it in our room. We like it because it is soft and special, we would use a photo to remember it.

    5. The day we made pikelets we measured, stirred and used all our senses. Then we cut the pikelets in halves and quarters and followed a procedure. We loved eating them and even Mrs Ware our Teacher Librarian tried them and loved them. We were lucky to have butter and apricot jam on them. We would remember this event with fresh pikelets.

One of our classmates even said that they would bring some sticky-tape and remind everyone how Miss Smith makes loops with it to stick things everywhere to make our room look fantastic!

We are having a ball sharing our ideas – or should we say football!

     Remember the past
     Remember special things
     Remember our birthday
 Remember how to be safe
 Remember our best manners (our teachers loved this one)

Our favourite memory this year is when year 5 students came to visit our class and talked to us about the groups that they belong to – such as sport groups. Hello again from the Happy Rappers in 1H at Caddies Creek Public School.

We enjoyed discussing why memories are important. Here are the main ideas we had:
Memories help us to learn from our experiences; they help us to learn and remember new things. We need memories to remember special occasions, special places and people who are special. Memories also leave us with feelings to remember.

We had 4 special memories from this year but our very favourite was making Chinese lanterns, during Chinese New Year.

We have chosen red paper, scissors and glue as the items to represent our memory. These were what we used to make our lanterns. It was fun learning about how people celebrate Chinese New Year. Now we have a memory and something to remember it by, just like Wilfrid and Nancy.

We enjoy reading about your memories, it has been very interesting.

    Hello again fantastic fellow rappers!

Our class 1S believes that memories are important because:
They help us learn from our experiences.
We can remember special things we have done.
Memories can help to protects us.
Memories can make us remember our family and friends.
Memories help us to learn many things.
They help us remember directions and instructions.

It is very early in the year for creating memories. So far in our class, the recent Clean Up Australia Day will be a memorable event for us, a special one. We enjoyed being a part of a big group that help keep our school, our environment, clean. We had fun looking out for rubbish that can fill up our big rubbish bag on that day. We chose a pair of garden gloves as the item that will help remind us of this memorable day.

We hope you also enjoyed remembering and deciding on your most special memories with your classes so far.

Our special class memory was cooking pancakes. We made lots of mess but it was worth it because they were delicious. We tasted them with all kinds of toppings like lemon and sugar, honey and strawberry jam. We drew a graph to see which topping was the most popular. Another special memory is our gardening activities. We have planted sunflower seeds in a garden. Bean seeds in a jar with blotting paper and cotton wool. We grew alfalfa in a jar which we ate, it was yummy! We have now planted pansies and are looking forward to picking some flowers.

We could represent our memories with a plastic frog and a packet of seeds.

    Bye for now.

    Hi Wilfrid Rappers
We have been busy this week talking about memories. We think memories are important because they help us to remember:
    * things from the past
    * special or unique things
    * things that we’ve learnt
    * safe and dangerous things

Class 2D’s special memory of school this year is when Miss Denzel told us her funny stories about her life. We found these stories very interesting and lots of fun! We chose a happy face to represent these memories.

Class K/6A’s favourite memory at school so far this year is when Jonathan came back to visit us. Jonathan has gone to a different school because he is a high school boy now. We really liked seeing him again. We have chosen a blue cap to represent this memory because Jonathan always wore his blue cap when ever he went outside. We could always see Jonathan in the playground because we all have maroon hats and he liked to wear his blue cap. We chose a blue cap to remind us of Jonathan’s visit.

We look forward to rapping with you next week!

Year 2G and 2L decided that memories are important because:
    • If we learnt about God when we were little and we didn’t have a memory of him then we would forget to say our prayers when we were grown up.
    • When we learn special things like our Library number then our memory helps us to remember it.
    • It is good to be able to remember special things we did when we were little.
    • Because you remember things like special celebrations.
    • It helps us to remember things we really like.

We had lots of special memoreis from school this year. Some of them are:
    • Making spiders in art
    • Playing soccer with Mr G
    • Meeting new teachers and new friends
    • Reading in the library
    • Doing Go Maths

We decided that the best way to show our memories was to have a photo album in the classroom of the special times we have that we could look at whenever we wanted.

Our special memories for this year are the two Sausage Sizzle Days. Our first day was Sorry Day where we all listened to Kevin Rudd on the TV. Our second day was a special thankyou day to a group of volunteer workers who planted lots of trees in our playground. It was great to meet the visitors who planted them.

Our class all want to say Hi to Mrs Williamson from Belmont School, we remember you.

    Hello fellow rappers,

We believe that memories are important because we have many special moments in our life that we don’t want to forget. They help you to remember the people in your life.

Our group’s special memory is the opening of our school’s 100 years celebrations. We had speeches from people who came to our school and they recalled their favourite memories. We choose a modern plaque that has written Glen Mann Activity Centre on it to be our item to represent the memory. This plaque used to hang in front of the building that Glen Mann built for the school.

    Until next time.

    Hello everyone,

We think that memories are important because they help us to think and learn.

Our special class memory was when our teacher’s grandmother came to visit our class. She talked about life in Malta during World War II.

Our special item, to remember her visit, would be a doll, because she was very poor and made her dolls out of material and beads.

We are really enjoying the book and we love reading your messages.

Here is our response to Rap Point 1:

Wilfrid kept his memories in a basket. We keep our memories in our brains and, if we want to remember something, we think about it and we know it.

Our memories of 2008 are: reading books in the library; playing with new friends in the playground; wearing our hats to be Sun Safe; learning how to play Tic Tac Toe; helping Mrs Brady in the classroom; and coming to the library to play chess.

Our object to help us to remember playing with new friends at school would be a red handball. We like to use the red ball at lunchtime to play handball.

We were laughing when we saw all the new pictures in Wilfrid’s basket on the wiki page, especially the door and the green frogs. We voted to make our red handball out of a red letter “o” by using the keyboard. Mr McLean helped us change the size to “extra large”.

Kirra said, “They remind us of special things.”

Our special memory this year is our very first lesson with Miss Penny from the Jellybeans Music Program. We were all very excited and nervous. . We have learnt to play “Mary’s Hot Cross Lamb” using our own recorders. We have also learnt new songs and played many other musical instruments.

Did you visit the Wilfrid Wiki to check out the colourful display of items which represent our class memories? It looks great.

If you haven’t yet posted your Rap Point 1 response it’s not too late. We would love to read your ideas, so just post it when you can.

    Greetings Newtownrappers here!

We believe memories are important to keep us safe if. If we never remember we might get lost or hurt. Memories are also important to help you remember the past and special people.

The school picnic is our class’s special memory. Every year our whole school goes to a harbour side park for the school day. We get to play, have fun with our friends and have a picnic. We have finally chosen, after much debate, a ‘Cricket bat and stumps,’ to represent our class memory. We chose this because we play cricket at the picnic and it reminds us of the fun we had.

Farewell for now, but not forever,

    Hello Rappers

Some of our memories so far this year are drawing faces and painting them and taking a digital pictures of our face and drawing our body underneath.

Our special memory is singing “Second Storey Window”. We think of a nursery rhyme and towards the end, we sing “…and we threw him out the window, the window, the second storey window…with a heave and a ho and a great big throw..we threw him out the window.” It’s really good fun. Our memory object to go with this is a nursery rhyme book, so we can choose different rhymes to put in the song.

You have all done an outstanding job over on Wilfrid’s wonderful wiki!

Well done to Glenhavenrappers for adding an animated graphic today. The little bottle looks great bobbing up and down in Wilfrid’s basket of memories.

Bluesea rappers: I’ve found you a cute little boat graphic for your wiki cell. You are welcome to change it if you like.

It’s so much fun trying to find the perfect image for a memory item. On Friday, one of my rapping groups had a great time looking for the perfect pen graphic for Mrs Keane, but today we found something even better!

Don’t forget to revisit the wiki page to see how it keeps growing and changing. There is always room for a few more entries; I can just keep adding empty cells.

Something that makes us laugh – our hermit crabs tickling our hands
Something that makes us cry – the poor children overseas that we raise money for
Something as precious as gold – our teacher!
Something warm – the pancakes we made for Shrove Tuesday

Memories are important because they help you remember good times and events. Memories of love ones make a warm feeling in your heart and make you strong. When you remember doing things that you are good at it gives you confidence.

Special memories from school this year are our Swimming Carnival, Art classes, Minibeasts hunt, our first day at school and learning about money. Our favourite item to represent these memories is our Minibeast search picture.

  64.   rap3c Says:

Our class thinks memories are important because they remind us of things from the past that we would like to remember. Happy memories help to cheer people up, when they are feeling sad. They can help us to remember happy events and important people in our lives.

Our memories are like photographs in our minds and help us to reflect on and remember special events and people. Some of our class’s special memories are: the swimming carnival, the first day meeting our teacher, meeting our class pets, Crikey, CJ and the laughing bag named Sir Laugh-a-lot, and our whole school photograph.

We have a diary with recounts of exciting adventures with Crikey and photographs to help us remember our favourite pet.

Tim says memories are good because we can remember how to walk.

Peter says when you play a computer game you can remember the medals you got from the game.

Jazz says memories are good so you can remember your favourite TV shows.

This year at school we remember how to write with the left or right hand and to bring our library books and also to our new teacher Miss Peyton.

    Greetings again,

We agree with other rappers that memories are important. Memories are important because you wouldn’t know who your Mum and Dad are and you wouldn’t know who you are. Also you wouldn’t remember anything you had to do or how to keep out of danger.

An important memory to share with you is going to Alexandria Canal on Tuesday. When we remember this we feel proud, happy and excited. We found it hard to think of something to symbolise this memory.

We look forward to reading your messages.

As a class we agree that memories are important because they help us to remember what to do in everyday life. Memories can be of sad and happy times, sometimes memories can last forever. Sometimes they can fade away.

Our memories of school 2008 are
    * Clean up Australia Day
    * making sea mobiles
    * playing fun games
    * watching Nemo
    * making new class friends.

Memories are very important otherwise you would not know who you are or where you came from. They are also important so you don’t forget stuff and so that you can remember your favourite things. Sebastian says memories are important because they could even save your life.

One of our favourite memories to share with you is the Lion Dance we had at the start of the year. We loved it because it was colourful and noisy and we experienced another culture. A piece of lettuce and cymbals help us remember how much we enjoyed the Lion Dance.

We all thought the Olympic website launch was going to be an important day to remember in the future. The school got a boxing kangaroo which will help us remember this day each time we see it in the office area.

Our class’s special memory is when we made our “Flat Stanley Board Games” because it was fun making them and they’ll be great games. We are very proud of our board games. We are making a model and then we are doing our real copy then we are laminating them and making some cards and laminating those too. These are the first board games we’ve ever designed.

Our memory item: A lucky chance card because we use it a lot.

    Dear Bookrappers,

ISHCMC is a little late in posting our first response. Grade 2 has been very busy this term. Today is the last day of Term 3 for us and it is Good Friday. We don’t get a holiday in Vietnam for Good Friday. Here is our response for Rap point 1:

We think that memories are important otherwise you might forget who you are, you might forget everything you have learned at school. You might forget who your friends are, to remember people’s names, you could forget all the things you had, to tell your children, to think about your life, and if you didn’t have a memory you would forget how to talk.

Our special memories of Grade 2 are: playing ‘base’ in class with Ms Jo; our student-led conferences; and the Grade 2 sleepover.

To help us remember these events we would choose:

    * a times table or cards with addition, subtraction, etc on them to remember the base game

    * a checklist for the student-led conferences

    * and a teddy bear (or doll) and a pillow for the sleepover.

    Happy Easter!
