    Hi clever Wilfrid Rappers!

What a great job you’ve all done creating fascinating new characters for Rap Point 3.

With the interruption to school because of the Easter holidays, many of you may not yet have posted your Rap Point 3 responses. Don’t worry - there is no strict deadline so just post your message to the Wilfrid blog when you find the time. We’d love to hear all about your new characters.

We are also looking forward to reading your Rap Wrap Up comments, on this page, over the next few weeks. It’s very important to reflect on our learning. We’ve all come so far in just a short time. Just think back to what you knew about blogging, wikis, book raps, picture books and memories just a few weeks ago.

    Happy Rap Wrapping everyone!

  2.   nowrarappers Says:

This is the first time 1J has particpated in a book rap, we liked the following things:

Different students from different places chose different things and had different opinions. We liked reading other rap responses.

We learned typing. We learned what a memory is. We learned about the computer and the Internet. We enjoyed finding out about other schools and their classes.

Our favourite character was Wilfrid Gordon, because he had four names, he was our age, he liked skateboarding and he liked hanging on monkey bars.

Our favourite activity was making up a new character.

Half of the class would like to do it again, and half the class would not like to do it again.

  3.   nowrarappers Says:

    1H learned:
    * what a memory is.
    * something we remembered doing as a class.
    * what other schools have done.
    * remembered another class made donuts and used a baby donut as a memory jogger.

Our favourite character is Mrs Jordan who played the organ. Because she plays the organ, She plays for everyone in the old people’s home, she said a memory was something warm, and she wears a scarf and gloves to keep herself warm.

Our favourite rap activity was learning about memories, and remembering something special that we had done together as a class and thinking of the item that Wilfrid would show to Miss Nancy.

Our class would like to do another rap because it was fun, it sounds nice, you get to learn new things and we get to look at other comments from other kids around Australia.

Nice to have met you all, good bye from 1H.

  4.   nowrarappers Says:

    2Q’s response:

We learned it is good to help people find their memory if they have lost it. You help them by asking them what they like doing and what they have done in the past.

We also learned that people lose their memories.

We liked telling other students around Australia about Nowra and our school, we learned that we know about places in Australia that other children dont. We learned about other students and where they live.

We learned that books are special.

Our favourite character is Miss Nancy because she was nice to Wilfrid Gordon, she lost her memory, she likes and respects other people, and we learned all about her when she was growing up.

Our favourite rap activity was making up new characters for the old people’s home.

We would be interested in another book rap because it is fun, you learn more about things, you get to learn about another book, you get to know how to do a book rap, it makes us happy, you learn more about life and because we get to talk through the Internet to so many other students about the same book.

Thank you for joining us with the rap blog…. 2Q.

  5.   nowrarappers Says:

2A learned that book rapping is fun. We learned about rhyming. We learned what book rap is and means. We didn’t know about book rapping and now we know all about it. We learned about other schools and students. We learned about the book. We learned Mem Fox likes rhyming.

Our favourite character is Mr Tippett who likes playing cricket. We like Mr Tippett the best because he plays cricket. He uses a broom for a bat! He has a nice stripey dressing gown. He has a big fat tummy and finds it difficult to do his trousers up!

Our favourite activity was making up new characters for the old people’s home. It was fun thinking of new things, we were laughing at the funny names and we made up really silly ones.

We would be interested in doing another book rap because it is fun, we can look and learn about a new book, learn about other stuff like characters from other books.

Good bye, farewell, we’ll miss you, THE END!

    WHAT DID WE ENJOY?
Our class has enjoyed reading other people’s posts and thoughts about the story. We love reading all of the ideas each week and writing our own to add to the rap.

We have had fun learning about rhyming when we made up more characters for the story. We were very proud of ourselves when we were able to use the format of Mem Fox’s writing style to make our writing sound like hers.

We laughed and laughed at other characters children made up.

Our favourite activity was making up the characters to go with Mr Tippett.

    WHAT DID WE LEARN?
We had fun learning about the meaning behind the story, using the pictures and the words to find out more information about the characters.

This was our first time at sending and reading posts and found out there are many ways of seeing things and that people have different ideas.

We would like to share in more blogs.

    Thanks

Hi there for the last time,

1/2W really enjoyed being part of this book rap. This is the first rap that we’ve been part of and Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is one of our favourite books!

Listening to the story was interesting and we all thought that we picked up new and different things from the book.

We had fun coming up with memories and really enjoyed making up characters for rap point 3. Now we are even going to make a class book of new characters. We liked reading all the funny names for new characters from other rappers. It was great to put the rap points up on our SMARTboard to read other responses.

We learnt about making up new characters and writing descriptions and we really got into the characters in the story and discovered more about them from the illustrations as well as the writing.

Thanks for having us - it was heaps of fun!

I’ve been so interested to read your Rap Wrap Up responses. We have all enjoyed and learnt so much together, by sharing our ideas and feelings about this beautiful picture book! Not only have we learnt more about the characters and memories, we have improved our computer skills. For most of us, including the teachers, this has been our first time blogging and using wikis.

If your class or group hasn’t yet posted your Rap Wrap Up message, please don’t worry. You have until the end of this term (Friday 11th April) to post any rap messages.

Thank you so much for all your wonderful work with the book rap. I look forward to reading the remaining Rap Wrap Up responses that are still to be posted on the blog!

    Hi

We have enjoyed listening to our teacher read from the blog. We have read other Mem Fox stories, it is interesting because they are all different. We have also enjoyed using the internet and finding the Mem Fox website to find out more information as we go along. We have liked looking at the books online.

We have learnt a lot of things about Mem Fox and her writing - where she gets her stories from - and now we can make up characters using people’s names we know. We have had fun blogging for our first time and most of us would like to do it again.

    Hello Everyone,

This rap has gone by so quickly. 1E, 1/2C and 2H have all enjoyed participating in this rap and really have looked forward to reading Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge each week.

All classes thought time was too short each week to do the activities and look at other school responses. This was because we had such a busy term with other things happening and we only have one hour each week in library to borrow and participate in the book rap.

Everyone really enjoyed creating new characters and the fun things Wilfrid found for the new memories. We also loved reading what other schools had done. We will definitely look forward to another book rap.

See you next time from 1E, 1/2C and 2H at ECPS

We enjoyed the memory basket that we made - Mrs Gough put some of her special things in there too.

We learned that we needed to talk to our grandparents to find out what they like to do for fun, because some of us didn’t know!

Thanks for the fun Wilfrid. It’s been great blogging and rapping!

    * reading other schools’comments
    * inventing a new resident using our grandparents as examples
    * putting the object into the Wlifrid Wiki.

    * how to use a blog and a wiki
    * how to send and receive messages
    * how to change colour and size of text in the wiki
    * that memories are the story of our lives.

We are very lucky that our school is next door to an old people’s home called Drummond House. Emily, one of the students in our class, suggested that we should visit the old people and read them our favourite picture books. They loved hearing our stories and they wanted us to visit again soon. Many of them were in their late 80s. We made them a bookmark for a present.

Thankyou Mr McLean and Mrs Scheffers for organising this book rap.

1W’s favourite character is Miss Nancy, because she was funny, she remembered dancing, going to the beach and finding shells, kicking the ball with Wilfrid and all the special times they spent together.

Our favourite activity was making up new characters. We enjoyed rhyming and thinking of words that went with our character.

We hope 2B’s brains don’t get too big with all their new knowledge that they can’t get out of their classroom door and visit the infants again! Maybe 2B can pass their excess knowledge onto 1W.

    G’day rappers,

This is one group of Penrith PS rappers wrapping up.

We enjoyed thinking of things to write in our rap responses. We enjoyed making Mrs Harmony Day and writing about her. We liked using the computer for writing and reading our messages on the rap blog, and also reading the rap responses from other schools. We liked being members of this special book rap group and doing activities we don’t normally have a chance to do. It was enjoyable seeing Caddies Creek PS’s artwork in the Gallery. We liked sharing our memories and adding them to the wiki page.

Patrick thought that we worked much harder on Wilfrid than when he was in the Possum Magic book rap last year.

Here’s what we learnt about reading:
    * The background of stories really gets into your mind during a book rap.
    * You must always read very carefully.
    * Reading is easy!
    * Reading can get “funner and funner”. Sometimes reading can be fun and even funny!
    * It’s lots of fun looking for clues when you’re reading.

Here’s what some of us learnt about technology:
    * “Technology is useful, and fun.” (Lots of us agreed that technology was fun.)
    * “I remembered to send the Rap Blog URL to my relatives in an email.”
    * “Technology can make you feel scared - a bit - if you don’t know what a blog is, but I’m not scared anymore because I know about wikis and blogs.”
    * “I went home to see the Gallery on the Internet.” (Five out of thirteen students have found the Rap Blog’s URL at home and shown their families.)

We enjoyed this book rap and can’t wait till next week when we finish making our artwork for the Gallery. (We have been busy with Book Fair, Chicks ‘R’ Us and Grandparents’ Day this week.)

    Best wishes from

    Hello rappers,

This is another group of Penrith PS rappers ready to wrap up.

We enjoyed reading the picture book of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge. We enjoyed learning about the characters in the story and learning about Mem Fox. We liked going to the wiki page to see all the memories in Wilfrid’s basket; every time we went, there were new objects! We liked reading Rap Responses on the Rap Blog.

Two of us liked tracing Matthew’s outline the best to make our new resident, Patrick St Green. Two of us liked seeing the other groups’ outlines, and the faces they chose for Mrs Day and Grandpa Peter.

Here’s what we learnt about reading:
    * “You get to see surprising things in picture books. You can imagine in your brain and sometimes the book’s pictures show you more than the words say.”
    * Reading is sometimes easy and sometimes hard. Book raps can make reading easier.
    * Sometimes the pictures tell a different story. We found clues about Wilfrid’s chicken in the illustrations.
    * Julie Vivas likes to hide things, like Wilfrid playing with Mr Tippett’s dressing gown cord, Miss Nancy’s pink socks and the chicken under the chair.
    * We learnt many new hard words, like “forgotten” and “memory”.
    * Reading picture books can help you read longer books later on.
    * Reading blogs is like reading little stories.

Here’s what some of us learnt about technology:
    * “We can send messages to other schools - and around the world - on the rap blog.”
    * “Computers sometimes lose their memories.”
    * “When we change the wiki page, the message goes all the way to America and back again very fast.”
    * “I liked it when we used Google Images to see all the different pens and pencils that Mrs Keane could use as a memory item.”
    * “‘Wiki wiki’ is a Hawaiian word that means ‘Quick!’
    * “We searched for things on the Internet with Google.”

Isabelle thought that Caddies Creek Public School did a great job making Mrs Curl’s glittery red shoes. Daniel reckons Caddies Creek students could make 1000 people in one day!

We enjoyed this book rap very much. Next week we have to finish our artwork for the Gallery.

    Best wishes from

    Howdy fellow rappers,

We have enjoyed rapping with you all. We feel that we have learnt a lot by doing this blog. We thought it was great that we can use blogging to communicate with lots of people around the world and that we could share our ideas with everyone.

We now have a better understanding of how memories are lots of different things to different people and how old people sometimes lose their memory. We agree with what slgs1 said, ‘…we don’t have to be big to make a difference in someone’s life.’

We loved making the new character and using rhyming words like Mem Fox. We came up with so many different characters that it was hard for us to decide on just one. We are looking forward to our next book rap.

Hope to blog with you all in the future.

    Hi fellow Wilfrid Rappers

Thank you all so much your wonderful efforts and creative ideas throughout this book rap! I have been so amazed by the clever and interersting responses from schools from all across Australia and Vietnam! It has been so much fun sharing our thoughts and ideas online, using the new technologies of blogs and wikis.

I’m sure students and teachers alike, will always have very special memories of Mem Fox’s and Julie Vivas’ beautiful picture book Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge and will fondly remember the time we spent book rapping together!

A big “Thank you” to all the teaching staff (classroom teachers, teacher librarians, Support unit teachers and assistants), who took up the challenge of this book rap and who intergtated it into their teaching program!

I look forward to rapping with you all again in the future!

    Happy reading everyone!

    Dear Rappers,

2S enjoyed reading the book and posting our responses on the blog. We also loved colouring in the characters and finding adjectives to describe them. Our homework project was to make a memory box of our own. Then we presented it to the class. We saw some funny photos of each other when we were little. It was great fun.

We hope to join in a blog again so we can learn more about books and blogging.

See you later alligators……… maybe in a while crocodile.

2M at Seven Hills North PS enjoyed doing a book rap for the first time.

We learnt about blogs and wikis, about using email, about the different ideas from other schools and especially about reading a book a few times to really get to know it. Our favourite activity was making up new residents for the old people’s home - we liked thinking up strange names and silly happenings.

Most of us would love to do another book rap but a few of us would prefer not to.

    All the best from 2M.

    Hello book rappers!

The last of my rap groups finished off their elderly resident outlines yesterday - last week was frantic here, with Book Fair and Grandparents’ Day - and I’ve just taken digital photos of their work, which I’ll add to the Gallery tonight.

The whole school community is celebrating their love of reading this afternoon with a reading picnic - a great sight to behold: 400 students, their teachers, students’ parents and toddler siblings, spread out in groups scattered throughout the school playground, enjoying books and nibblies in a picnic atmosphere. These celebrations have become an end-of-term tradition here at Penrith PS over recent years, and they are so effective at bringing a community together with a literacy focus.

Thanks to all our participating schools for making this book rap such a memorable experience. Lots of you were first time rappers and you launched into this with so much enthusiasm.

I presented the rap blog and wiki to a group of our parents on Tuesday night and they were surprised/enthused/fascinated at how we had harnessed the capabilities of Web 2.0 to share such meaningful learning and teaching, especially that their children had been communicating with students all over Australia and even Vietnam. While preparing my talk, I re-read those early introductory messages again this week, and it was a great reminder at how far we’d all come in such a short time! Great work, everyone!

Thanks also to Mrs Scheffers at Caddies Creek PS, Mrs Keane and the team at Ryde State Office (NSW DET) for making sure it all came together.

See you at the next rap!

    Hi everyone,

This was the first time that 1/2T participated in the book rap. We learnt so many things like:

    how to type
    learning about old people
    learning what a memory was
learning a little bit about the olden days
learning about other schools and students
how to get onto the blog
    creating new characters
    learning to send messages
Mem Fox’s writing and Julie Vivas’ illustrations
    learning about characters.

How we may have done things differently?

Make it more exciting by putting in more pictures
Being able to access the blog more.

    Until the next time,

    Hi everyone

We have had so much fun doing the “Wilfrid” book rap and are already talking about which book might be chosen next time! Some of us did the “Possum Magic” rap last year.

We have enjoyed working with our buddies from mainstream classes and especially the extra work that Mrs Raymond’s class did after we made our wonderful Mr Barden. We can’t believe how popular Mr Barden has become, he is quite a celebrity at Caddies Creek and even got his picture in our school newsletter.

It was great fun deciding who would be our person and even more fun making him. We loved hearing the story over and over again. We enjoyed working on our joint constructions then doing our blog entries. We got excited seeing all the new characters in the Gallery, especially our very own Mr Barden.

    See you all next year!

    Hello rappers,

SCLB had Circle Time in the library today to talk about what we learned in the Wilfrid book rap.

    We enjoyed:

    * seeing our Grandpa Peter outline on the rap blog Gallery
    * finding the chicken in the pages of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge
    * Mr Hosking’s scary stories
    * Mr McLean’s scary poem of The Hairy Toe
    * Miss Mitchell and her walking stick.

The book rap improved our reading by:
    * watching the pictures in Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge
    * turning the pages
    * using the pictures to help us read
    * asking my Mum to read to me.

The book rap helped us with technology by:
    * helping us learn
    * thinking about it
    * playing games on the Internet
    * seeing all the people in the Gallery.

We had fun with the Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge book rap!
