We have created a character called Ms Bess who likes to play chess. She is an 81 year old, Scottish woman, who is lean and wears a kilt.

She plays chess with Wilfrid and lets him win at times. She loves to play the bagpipes and is good friends with Miss Nancy.
Miss Bess told Wilfrid in her sweet, Scottish voice that a memory is something that makes you shine.

Wilfrid found a shiny silver star to give to Miss Nancy. When he gave her the star she remembered the time she went camping with her sister and parents and they all saw a shooting star.

We had fun trying to make rhyming characters. We thought it would be fun to write limericks about the people in the old people’s home. We wrote:

Coming to the home was Miss Doyle
Who brought with her some soil,
She loved to garden
And always said pardon.
Pressed flowers made her toil.

Also living in the home was Miss Polly
She really liked to lick lollies,
She decorated cakes
She baked and baked.
Her daughter’s name was Molly.

Mr Grant who keeps keys on his pants.
We would take a lock and key to remind him of the time he locked himself in the cupboard.

Mrs Venables who likes to eat vegetables.
We would take vegemite sandwiches as she brings them to school a lot to remember eating lunch at school.

Mr Cox who wears stripy socks
We would take a pair of Crocs to visit him as he likes to wear them to school.

Mrs Batkin who always uses a table napkin.
We would take music scores and pink pjs to remind her of playing the piano while we are singing She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain.

Mrs Knight who is scared of the dark.
We would take her a torch so that she remembers that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Mr Cooper who we think is super.
We would take him a megaphone to remind him of all his great speeches at assemblies.

Mrs Ware who has very long hair.
We would take a copy of the book Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge so that she can remember that we did this book rap with her help.

Mrs Symons who always wears diamonds.
We would bring her some music to dance to as she is a great dancer.

Miss Smith who likes to eat chips.
We would bring her a photo of our class to remind her of all the great times we had together in class and a roll of masking tape to make loops to hang the photo on the wall, just like she did in our classroom.

Miss Nancy who always was fancy. Mr Collimore who always wanted more. Miss Mel who likes ringing the lunch bell. Mr Cottage who liked to eat sausage. Miss Alana who is fond of llamas. Mr Magee who kept 100 fleas!

Thirrouligans

Mr Luke who is great at golf. Miss Elizabeth who is always famished for food. Mr K who is good with kids. Miss Isabella who is great at bowling. Miss Ruby who likes reading books. Miss Jade who is just terrific at juggling.

Mr Brown is 82 years old and wears black trousers. He has black/grey hair and a pointy black/grey beard. His ears are elf like. He wears a grey button up long sleeved shirt and wears his favourite old brown jacket that has patches from being worn out. The jacket is initialled with a B for his name. He has white socks with shiny black shoes and a black bowler hat.

Mr Brown enjoys reading books about his favourite pastime (chocolate) with his reading glasses and green eyes. He is reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the moment. He has shiny white teeth because he carries his toothbrush in his jacket pocket to care for his teeth after eating his favourite snacks: chocolate milkshakes. He still wears his wedding ring as a reminder of his deceased wife.

Mr Brown thinks a memory is “something as wonderful as chocolate, my friend, something as wonderful as chocolate.”

He watched telly with Mrs Kelly who made the best jelly.
He sat with Mrs Brown who always wore a frown.
He laughed with Mr Stokes who told funny jokes.
He practised boxing with Mr Oxin who used to be a champion.
He sang to Mrs Finn who fell in the bin.

Wilfrid would put a jellybaby in the box after meeting Mrs Kelly, and a joke book to help remind Miss Nancy of the jokes she liked as a child.

We decided on having 5 new residents come to live next to Wilfrid. They are:

Mr Crunch who loved to eat salad so Wilfrid would have lunch with him.

Mrs Cook adored books. She and Wilfrid would dream about all those places in the books that they read together.

Mr Hocket loved chocolate (don’t we all)! Wilfrid made sure that he only ate the soft-centred ones!

Mr Pardon loved the garden. Wilfrid would find snails with him.

And our final resident was Mr Bolf. He loved golf and was a little like Mr Tippet. Wilfrid and Mr Bolf would swing anything that looked like a golf club – a towel, a piece of rope, anything!

All the new residents absolutely adored Wilfrid and his thoughtfulness – especially for one so young!

Hi fellow rappers,

Our special character is Mr Farmer. He is 100 years old! He walks with a stick. He wears striped pants and a shirt, and his gumboots. He use to take care of his animals at his farm. His favourite animal was his dog Hush, who was black and white.

Wilfrid asked Mr Farmer, “What is a memory?’

He replied, “A memory is something which can make you happy, my son, something which can make you happy.”

Wilfrid put a toy dog in his memory box for Miss Nancy. When he gives the toy dog to her, Miss Nancy says, “Aha, I remember now when I use to play with my dog BJ all the time in my backyard.”
