Rap point 3
Wilfrid Gordon’s “… house was next door to an old people’s home and he knew all the people who lived there.”
- Invent another resident of the old people’s home. Tell us about them. Use Mem Fox’s writing style to help you. For example:
He talked to… who…
He ate with… who…
He followed… who…
He sat with… who…
- What would this resident tell Wilfrid a memory is? i.e. “Something…”
- What special object could Wilfrid find to give Miss Nancy to help her remember?
- If Wilfrid gave Miss Nancy this object, what do you think Miss Nancy would start to remember?
Use the Programming and planning activities and Rap sheets to help you respond to Rap point 3. Go to the Leave a reply box at the bottom of this page to post your class response on the rap blog. Here we are at Rap Point 3! The home stretch is in sight, and so are the Easter holidays! It’s been wonderful reading your responses to Rap Point 2, plus all the extra Introductions (welcome aboard!) and memorable new entries in the Rap Point 1 section.
This week, we have to look carefully at how Mem Fox introduces each elderly character in the book, and to use Mem’s writing style to introduce a brand new resident of the retirement home.
Next, think about how this other resident might tell Wilfrid about what a “memory” is? What special new object might Wilfrid think of to add to his basket of memories to help Miss Nancy remember? What do you think Miss Nancy would start to remember when she sees this object?
Help your teacher and teacher librarian to write a joint-construction for the rap blog. Perhaps you might start by drawing a picture of your new resident, and asking your friends to guess what this resident likes to do best?
Don’t worry if Harmony Day and Easter activities distract you with your rapping. This is a busy week in most schools! You can still make a blog entry to the appropriate section whenever you can. I hope you are enjoying reading all the excellent responses. Mrs Scheffers, Mrs Keane and I have been very impressed with everyone’s thoughtful blog entries (and wonderful wiki work)!

1H from Thirroul had the following new characters:
He sat with Mr Jett who was serious about surfing. Mr Jett would say that a memory was ’something wet’ and Wilfrid would put some sand in his box to represent this memory.
He talked with Miss Darci who was bonkers about books. Miss Darci would say that a memory was something ‘papery’ and Wilfrid would put his writing journal in the box.
He followed Mr Finn who was fabulous at football. Mr Finn would say that a memory was something ‘loud’. Wilfrid would put a whistle in the box.
He ate with Miss Hannah who was colossal at cooking. Miss Hannah would say that a memory is ’something tasty’. Wilfrid would choose a spoon to put in his memory box.

Hi there fellow rappers,
Our new character is Mrs Shields. Wilfrid follows Mrs Shields who enjoys sharing lollies. Wilfrid asks her what a memory is and she replies that it is “Something sweet and sticky, young man, something sweet and sticky.”
So Wilfrid goes home to look for something sweet and sticky to bring back Miss Nancy’s memory. He finds a jar of strawberry jam in the pantry to take to her. When he gives it to Miss Nancy she remembers picking strawberries from her garden when she was a little girl and helping her Mum make strawberry jam.
We chose the name Mrs Shields because she is the Grandma of the twins in our class.
Looking forward to reading your character inventions.

Hi Everyone
Our class used real people for our starting point just like Mem Fox uses people she knows in her stories. We brainstormed things our grandparents like to do for fun. Then we tried to make up rhyming names because we liked the way Mr Tippett and cricket sounded together.
We remembered Wilfrid to be a kind and helpful person so then we thought how he would help these people:
He brought biscuits to Mr Joffee, who likes to drink coffee;
He collects tools for Miss Tan, who fixes the caravan;
He was doubled with Mrs Marley, who rides a Harley;
He counts money for Mr Popping, who likes to go shopping; and
He brings wrapping paper to Mrs Tift, who loves to give gifts.
Thanks

Hello rappers!
How exciting to meet all these new arrivals at the old people’s home next to Wilfrid’s house!
Mr Jett the surfer sounds like a very interesting fellow, and I think I’d enjoy shopping with Mr Popping, especially if he likes shopping in second hand bookshops.
I would also like to meet Mrs Shields again. In fact, I think I remember her from primary school. I once won a huge jar of lollies for writing out the neatest poem in the class! How amazing that the Manly Village rappers chose the same name!
Who else is going to arrive at the old people’s home, I wonder?
Happy rapping with Rap Point 3,

Hello rappers!
We would like to introduce you to Mr Tandy. He has short grey hair. He is wearing a cream shirt with a pocket for his glasses, long, light-brown pants with braces, black sandals with grey socks and a gold cardigan to keep him warm. He is a tall gentleman with a long white beard. He has a long skinny nose and bright blue eyes.
Wilfrid danced with Mr Tandy who likes to eat CANDY! Mr Tandy told Wilfrid that a memory is ’something as sweet as sugar’.
The object that Wilfrid would include in his basket to give Miss Nancy would be an Easter egg, so that she could remember the time when she wore a beautiful Easter bonnet to church on Sunday.
We can’t wait to meet your characters too!

Mr Kranz said, “A memory is like dancing in the rain.”
Wilfrid might collect disco lights and dancing shoes.

Mr Bunny loves money. He wears a hunting suit and has lots of money poking out of his pockets.
He loves to have fun. He says a memory is like the smell of money. To jog his memory Wilfrid could show all his saved pocket money.
1H chose Mr Bunny because it’s nearly Easter.

Hi
We love the Nowra kids’ idea of the cool disco dancing Grandpa Mr Kranz. We hope we are like him when we get older.
Our class has created 9 new characters that we think may like to join in the fun of the Home. As they are new to the home they like to get out and about with the help of Wilfrid. We worked in 3 smaller groups and have created a range of styles in our writing.
He places the mat for Mrs Coles who likes to play bowls. Mrs Coles says a memory is “something fun, my darling, something fun”. Wilfrid puts a smooth ball in the memory box.
He makes lunch for Mr Martens who likes going to the gardens. Mr Martens says a memory is “a beautiful smell, young man, a beautiful smell”. Wilfrid finds a beautiful smelling flower.
He carries the bags for Miss Lett who likes buying chocolate. Miss Lett thinks a memory is “something that is warm and soft, my dear, something warm and soft”. Wilfrid puts a soft fluffy blanket in the memory box.
He likes to read the menu for Mr Skinner who loves his dinner.
He helps to count the money for dear old Mrs Pheasants who likes to buy presents. Mrs Pheasants wears a fancy hat and gloves and smells of Avon.
He orders the taxi for Mr and Mrs Stubb who have fun at the club.
He likes to get the snacks for Mr Kissiters who loves to have visitors. Mr Kissiters always gives kisses when he sees them.
He puts up the tent for Mr Lamp who likes to camp. Mr Lamp remembers going fishing as he is reading the newspaper.
He gets the ice for Mr Pink who likes to have a drink. Mr Pink says a memory is “something nice and cold, me lad, something that’s nice and cold”.
We think the Home may need to be a Village.

2A from Nowra Public School chose Mrs Muffles as the new resident to live in the old people’s home.
Mrs Muffles likes eating chocolate truffles. She says that a memory is like the sweet taste of chocolate. It just melts in your mouth.
To jog her memory Wilfrid would give Miss Nancy a chocolate Easter Egg.
March 18th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Hi there rappers,
This was lots of fun to do. Here are the characters that we thought up to add to the old people’s home next to Wilfrid Gordon.
He adored Mr Andrews who liked to swim with him. He told Wilfrid Gordon that a memory was, “Something heavy, my boy, something heavy.” Wilfrid found a rock and Miss Nancy remembered when she went bushwalking with her family.
He loved Mrs Picket who was crazy about chickens. She told Wilfrid Gordon that a memory was, “Something light, my darling, something light.” Wilfrid found a feather and Miss Nancy remembered when she got her first chicken.
He chased Mr Prickles who ate pickles. He told Wilfrid Gordon that a memory was, “Something that makes you smile, my lad, something that makes you smile.” Wilfrid found an old Jack-in-the-box and Miss Nancy remembered a Christmas when she got a Jack-in-the-box.
We can just imagine all of these characters in amongst the others all sitting around with Miss Nancy! We look forward to reading more responses.
Until next time,

Hello rappers
Your responses are so entertaining that I’m laughing aloud at the names and descriptions of your new residents.
I think the 2/3K Bellybloggers are correct. The home will become a village with so many new residents. I would love to visit Mr Pickles who would definitely make me smile and Mrs Coles sounds like fun. Imagine visiting Mrs Muffles at Easter! How many truffles and Easter eggs will she receive?
My new resident is Mrs Cook because she is always reading a book! She would enjoy sharing the wonderful words and pictures with Wilfrid.
I look forward to reading more responses too.

Hello everyone,
Just wait till you meet our new resident! We haven’t finished writing up our narrative about her yet, but Mr McLean made us stand up in a row to measure ourselves – and the tallest one of us, Toni, had to lie on a huge roll of orange Brennex paper while we traced around the outline of her body.
While we traced her, we sat in a circle and each of us suggested something about our new resident’s likes, dislikes and hobbies. Old Mrs Harmony Day will love wearing orange clothes, and you’ll meet her on Thursday afternoon when we next get ready to rap.
We will post a picture of Harmony Day when we’ve finished making her and writing about her.

Hi fellow Wilfrid rappers
What fun we are all having this week creating our new book characters. I’m sure both Mem Fox and Julie Vivas would be most impressed to read your creative and clever ideas! If we could possibly add all our new characters, imagine how thick the book would now be! I think you have all done a great job matching your new character’s description of a memory with what Wilfrid would give Miss Nancy.
Keep up the great work everyone.

Hello all the other rappers out there
This week our class had lots of fun creating a new character for the retirement home next door to Wilfrid. We decided to use the name of our school principal as a base for our character.
He made model cars with Mr Nash who was always losing his glasses. He told Wilfrid Gordon that a memory was, “Something as colourful as a rainbow my lad, something as colourful as a rainbow.” Wilfrid collected some coloured pencils and put them in his memory box for Miss Nancy.
When Miss Nancy sees the coloured pencils it reminds her of a beautiful rainbow she saw after a terrible storm when she was a child.
Our class description for Mr Nash.
Mr Nash is a tall chubby man with white fluffy hair, a white bushy moustache, blue eyes and tanned skin. He is 88 years old and wears faded orange trousers, a pale yellow button up shirt, brown braces and a brown baseball cap. He has brown sandals and light blue socks. He has a deep croaky voice and dry wrinkly skin. Mr Nash is bright and chirpy and always looks forward to spending time with Wilfrid. Mr Nash always keeps a careful eye on Wilfrid in case he has an accident with his skateboard.
(I should mention the real Mr Nash is a lot younger than 88 and it is just his name we decided to use and not what he looks like, or his fashion sense. Mrs Scheffers and I would like to keep our jobs!)
I hope all the other rappers had as much fun creating a new character for the book as we did. Can’t wait to read all of them.
Best wishes

Hello again Wilfrid Rappers,
A lot of thought went into our response this week, there were so many good ideas we had to vote.
Our new character would be Mrs Large who liked watching tv. She has curly black hair and a small, round, wrinkly face. Mrs Large wears a pink and black rock and roll skirt with a matching blouse. She has shiny pink nail polish on her fingers and toes and wears matching pink sandals. She has bright blue eyes and wears black framed reading glasses. She is 89 years old and is always laughing.
He ate chocolate mudcake with Mrs Large who liked watching TV. When Wilfrid asked Mrs Large what a memory was, she replied, ‘It’s something delicious, my son, something delicious’.
While he was collecting things to show Miss Nancy, Wilfrid went to the kitchen and took the shiniest red apple from the fruit basket. When Miss Nancy held the apple in her hands, she remembered the holiday when she went camping with her family and ate apples they had picked from an orchard together.
We hope you like our description, we are all going to have a go at drawing Mrs Large, I wonder what she will look like…?

Hello fellow rappers
Wilfrid bounced with Mrs Rubber who does back-flips on the trampoline.
When he asked Mrs Rubber, “Do you know what a memory is?”, Mrs Rubber answered, “It’s something to do with sport.”
He gave Miss Nancy a huge, green and red dotted exercise ball.

Hi rappers,
We had our first meeting today to decide on a new resident for the old people’s home. We rolled out some green Brennex paper and made an outline drawing of a man by tracing around Matthew.
We decided his name will be Mr Patrick St Green, after St Patrick’s Day, which was this week (Monday 17th March). We have made a list of Mr St Green’s likes, dislikes, hobbies and his old job, and we will post our final draft next week. (We think he might be a friend of Mrs Harmony Day, who is pinned on our library noticeboard.)
We can’t wait to read everyone else’s Rap Responses.

He sat with Miss Tagg who had a very old bag. Miss Tagg told Wilfrid that a memory was something that happened when she was a lot younger.
Wilfrid collected a big, colourful bag for Miss Nancy to help her remember.
Miss Nancy remembered a very special friend from long ago who gave her a colourful, special, gold bag when she was 18 years old.

G’day everyone, this is 2B. Our new resident at the nursing home is Mrs Williams!
Wilfrid Gordon listened to Mrs Williams who tells tiddle-tales! She told him that a memory is something that makes you giggle out loud.
The special object that Wilfrid thought he would show Miss Nancy was himself pulling a funny face.
Miss Nancy remembered her local town show when she was young and the maze of funny mirrors that she stood in front of that changed the shape of her face and body. She laughed and laughed at herself and the funny shape her body had changed into.
Miss Nancy is delighted that Wilfrid Gorden could help her remember such funny memories.
We hope Mrs Williams will stop telling tiddle-tales!

The Thirrouligan 2H rappers thought of many new characters…we need some more library time to now work on their descriptions – perhaps we might do this next week!
Mr Beevee who loved watching TV.
Mr Billy who was annoyingly silly.
Miss Jones who was crazy about bones (she’s a scientist!)
Mr Nic who doesn’t know how to kick.
Mrs James who wants to be famous.
Mr Hood who’s good with wood.
Mr Fillips who is frightened of fish.
Mrs Louisey who thinks everything’s easy.

Hello rappers.
Class SCLB came to the library today with our friends from the hearing support class, SCLM. The tallest boy was Dejan, so Mr McLean asked him to roll onto some purple Brennex paper and we drew his outline to make a new resident of the old people’s home.
One day, Wilfrid Gordon’s other grandfather, Mr Peter Laurie Bilby Partridge, came to live at the nursing home. He has four names just like Wilfrid. Grandpa Peter is a happy fellow who loves wearing purple. He likes eating ice cream, red apples and Tiny Teddy biscuits. Maybe that is why he is a bit too fat.
Grandpa Peter used to be an author who wrote children’s books. When he wasn’t writing books, he drove an ice cream truck. Grandpa Peter goes to bed a lot, and he sometimes likes to swim in the pool.
Wilfrid asked Grandpa Peter, “What’s a memory?”.
Peter Laurie Bilby Partridge said, “Something as cold as ice cream, Wilfrid, something as cold as ice cream!”
Wilfrid showed Miss Nancy a photo of Grandpa Peter’s blue and white ice cream truck and she remembered hearing music playing as an ice cream van came by on very hot days.

It took 2K a while to vote on our answer because we were thinking of all the types of Captains we could have…: pirates, airplane captains, etc. Here is our decision.
In the nursing home there was Captain Pleasure who has searched for treasure.
When Wilfrid asked Captain Pleasure what a memory is, Captain Pleasure said, “A memory is something that makes you look good, my boy, something that makes you look good”.
Wilfrid found a belt, with a shiny buckle to show Miss Nancy. It reminded Miss Nancy of the sparkling gold ring her mother wore on her finger.

Hello everyone,
We all enjoyed this final rap point. Here is what we came up with. 2G decided on the names of the new residents and 2L came up with the what the new resident would call a memory and what they would use to represent the memory.
Wilfrid loved Mrs Ross who was never cross. He watched Mr Pooty who loved to play footy. He played with Miss Round who enjoyed the playground. He read to Mrs Pumpony who was very good company. He danced with Mr Mited who got very excited.
Wilfrid also shared with Mrs Cooks who liked to read books. Miss Cooks said, “A memory is like a story, Wilfrid, a memory is like a story.”
Miss Cooks gave Miss Nancy a book of photographs of when she was young to help her remember her childhood.
Mr Ross said, “A memory is something that makes you sleepy, something that makes you sleepy.” He gave Miss Nancy a baby blanket and pillow to help her remember her childhood.

Hello rappers,
One day a new lady came to live in the old people’s home. Her name was Mrs Harmony Day. Her favourite colour was orange. She wore orange clothes and her hair was orange and styled in a bob.
Mrs Day liked reading. She used to be a skipping champion, and she was also a racing car driver. She still has her old racing car and she uses it to go shopping to buy rings and necklaces. She has a treadmill to keep fit. She loves tearing out recipes in old magazines.
Wilfrid asked her, “What’s a memory?”
Mrs Day said, “Something that’s orange, my dear, something that’s orange.”
Wilfrid took an orange from the fruit bowl to show Miss Nancy. The orange reminded her of happy memories with her family, squeezing orange juice on an old fashioned orange squeezer.

Hi rippedy, rep, rup rappers,
Our three classes have created the wonderful Mr Michaels. Wilfrid played Monopoly with him. Mr Michaels is tall, with orange-coloured glasses, brown leather lace-up shoes and a stripy buttoned-up shirt. He also wears yellow socks with brown shorts. Mr Michaels has a happy face with a pointy nose. His eyes are blue and he is 75 years old. When Wilfrid was asking about memories, Mr Michaels said that memories were “as colourful as a rainbow, my lad, as colourful as a rainbow.”
Wilfrid thought that he would put some sparkling Christmas lights in his basket for Miss Nancy because they are so colourful. When she saw them they reminded Miss Nancy of the wonderful Christmas she had at Bondi Beach a long, long time ago.

What a great job you’ve all done creating fascinating new characters for the book. Wilfrid and Miss Nancy would be so impressed and would love spending time getting to know your new characters better!
With the interruption to school because of the Easter holidays, many of you may not yet have posted your Rap Point 3 responses. Don’t worry – there is no strict deadline so just post your message to the Wilfrid blog when you find the time. I’d love to hear all about your new characters.

After discussing our favourite character 1H found it exciting to make up a new character. After quite a bit of discussion we voted and this is what we came up with:
Our new character is Mr Smith, who is short and cuddly with thin grey hair and brown eyes. He wears long blue pants, a yellow tee-shirt and a red zip up jacket. He proudly wears his old slouch hat and his war medals. Mr Smith has rosy cheeks, a soft voice and he is kind to everyone.
Wilfrid shares secrets with Mr Smith who is 93 years old. Mr Smith tells Wilfrid, “A memory is something that makes you proud, my lad. It makes you proud.”
Wilfrid then puts a trophy he has won in his basket. Miss Nancy remembers that when she was at school, she was in a swimming race and she won!
We are hoping to make a picture of Mr Smith, that should be lots of fun.

Hi Rappers,
We decided that our new resident for the old people’s home would be Miss France who loves to dance.
Wilfrid asked Miss France what a memory was and she replied, “Something shiny, me lad, something shiny.”
Wilfrid found a tin of glitter in his box to show Miss Nancy.
Miss Nancy remembered the time when she went to a school dance and the beautiful, glittery, shiny disco ball that was in the centre of the room.

Hi rappers
We decided that the new resident would be Mr Barden. Mr Barden is 90 years old. He is very deaf, skinny, wears glasses and has hardly any hair. He loves to wear track pants, a check shirt and a big old hat.
Wilfrid watches Mr Barden who likes to garden. Sometimes Wilfrid helps Mr Barden pick the beautiful flowers that he grows against the back fence of the old people’s home. Wilfrid loves it when Mr Barden lets him wear his gardening gloves. Mr Barden told Wilfrid, “A memory is something sweet-smelling, young fella, something sweet-smelling.”
Wilfrid’s object from Mr Barden is a rose. The rose helps Miss Nancy remember when she played with her little sister in her grandmother’s garden when they were young. Miss Nancy and her sister always stayed with their grandmother in the school holidays.
We are going to make Mr Barden out of old pantyhose and paper for our library. Please don’t tell Mrs Scheffers, we want her to be surprised to find Mr Barden sitting in her office chair one morning!

We had fun doing this activity.
Our new character that we created was Miss Nelly who loves jelly. So when Wilfrid asked her what a memory was, she said, “A memory is colourful and wobbly, my boy, colourful and wobbly.”
Wilfrid looked for something bright and shaky, he found some very striking balloons to put in his basket.
We then went and drew what we thought that Miss Nelly looked like on the computer.

2D and K/6A would like to introduce you to Mrs Curl. (Click on her name and scroll down to the Gallery.)
Mrs Curl likes to wear green and purple dresses. She has blue eyes and soft, white hair which she puts up into a bun. Her reading glasses are star shaped and sparkly purple. Mrs Curl is tall and cuddly. She is 77 years old and has shiny red dancing shoes.
Wilfrid liked to bake cookies with Mrs Curl who likes to dance and twirl whilst wearing her pearls.
When Wilfrid asked Mrs Curl what a memory was, she replied “Something that makes you dance, my beautiful boy, something that makes you dance.”
After speaking to Mrs Curl, Wilfrid decided to include a CD player in the gift he made for Miss Nancy. When Miss Nancy saw the CD player, she remembered when she was a young girl and she won a trophy in a dancing competition.
We hope you all have a great week filled with dancing and twirling.

We are the carltonsouthrappers.
Wilfrid Gordon adored Mrs Helen who loved to eat watermelon. She says a memory is juicy and yummy. To help Miss Nancy remember, Wilfrid Gordon could find some watermelon seeds for Miss Nancy. Miss Nancy would remember going on a picnic at the age of nine and eating juicy, yummy watermelon with her friends.

Hello Fellow Rappers!
Our class found it very interesting to invent another character for the story of WGMP. There was Mr Rolly who was short and fat. He wears an old blue T-shirt and grey baggy shorts with black braces. He also wears black joggers with light blue stripy socks. Mr Rolly has spiky, thick, grey hair and round reading glasses that he wears around his neck on a chain. His eyes are sparkling brown and they crinkle when he smiles. He has a brown, freckled face with bushy, spiky eyebrows.
Wilfrid had a swim with Mr Rolly who wears a red straw sun hat. When Wilfrid asked Mr Rolly what a memory was, he said, “A memory is something crazy, my dear boy, something that is crazy.”
Then Wilfrid looked for funny, pop-up eyeglasses to put in the basket to be given to Miss Nancy to help her remember. When Miss Nancy held the funny, pop-up eyeglasses, she started to remember when her brother pretended he had four eyes and made his little sister laugh.
Well, we enjoyed thinking and working together in inventing a new character. It was a good exercise putting all the above ideas about Mr Rolly and imagining how a particular object helped Miss Nancy remember memories from the past.
We’re almost close to the end of our rap activities this term. We are inspired reading your ideas fellow rappers and looking forward to reading some more before our final activity. We remain your friends,

Wilfrid met the new resident called Mr Patrick St Green. He was once an athlete and he likes eating vegetables, especially green beans. Green is his favourite colour and he wears green clothes a lot. Wilfrid calls him Mr Pat for short.
Wilfrid asked Mr Pat, “What’s a memory?”
Mr Pat always says, “A memory is something that makes you want to run fast, my good friend, something that makes you run fast!” Mr Pat used to be an athletics champion, and he won gold medals for running fast for Australia.
This made Wilfrid think of his toy cap gun, which sounds just like a starter’s pistol. Wilfrid fired the cap gun into the air next to Miss Nancy.
“Oh my child!” shouted Miss Nancy. “I hope that isn’t a real gun. That terrible noise reminds me of the day I fell down the stairs!”
“I’m glad that you didn’t hurt yourself, but I’m glad you can remember that day,” said Wilfrid.

Hello again fellow rappers! 2M really enjoyed this Rap Point!
Wilfrid shared jokes with Mr Gilchrist who wears his round, brown reading glasses. Mr Gilchrist is thin, short and wears a white t-shirt with navy blue shorts. He wears his old cricket shoes with odd socks, yellow and green. Mr Gilchrist and Mr Tippett are best buddies because they both love cricket.
Mr Gilchrist has straight, brown hair and a round face with green eyes. He is 78 years old and he loves to drink mango milkshakes and eat lots of vegetables. He has tanned, rough skin and spikey, brown eyebrows. He wears a gold chain that he got for ‘man of the match’ in his last cricket match as wicket keeper and batsman. He carries a cricket joke book and his favourite cricket gloves. He wears a silver watch that he got from Mr Tippett for his 70th birthday.
Mr Gilchrist tells Wilfrid that a memory is “something that makes you proud, my cute little boy, something that makes you proud.”
Wilfrid chose a special sports trophy that he won for his object to give Miss Nancy.
Miss Nancy was reminded of the time that she won a colouring-in competition when she was 14.

Hi again everyone,
We had a lot of fun putting this Rap Point’s response together. We did a Think, Pair, Share and came up with many people who could live in the retirement home. We had a vote and these were the ones that we thought we would include:
1. Mr Milancy who is very fancy. The object chosen was a fancy scarf which would have sequins and feathers on it and lots of very bright colours.
2. Mr McMackus who is crazy about crackers. The object chosen for him would be a box of yummy crackers, maybe cheese or BBQ flavoured.
3. Mrs Bone whose crazy about trombones. We thought a toy trombone might be a good object to include, because a real one might be WAY too big!
4. Miss Litt who likes to knit. A lovely ball of wool and some knitting needles was our choice for Miss Litt.
5. Mr Belly who loves mango jelly. A yummy, juicy mango is the object to help remembering.

G’day rappers
Wilfrid watched Mrs Farlazzo who loved to plant things.
“What’s a memory?” he asked. “Something healthy,” she said, “Something healthy.”
Wilfrid would give Miss Nancy an apple, then she would remember being on her grandfather’s farm picking up corn on the fields with her dad, and her friends, to help out her grandfather.

“A memory is something fast, me lad, something fast,” Mr Ryder said.
Wilfrid put his remote control car in his box. Miss Nancy remembered the time she won a race at school. She was really fast.

Hi friends
Wilfrid loved Mrs Glove who flew like a dove.
She told him that a memory was, “Something that touched your heart and made you feel love.”
So Wilfrid found some flowers and Miss Nancy remembered her first boyfriend.

Hi rappers,
2P had such fun making up new characters and using rhyming words. This is what we came up with:
He played with Mrs Black
who had lots of Blu-tac.
He taught Mr Rocks
how to play blocks.
He read to Ms Galloway
who eats apples every day.
He skipped with Mrs Pink
who always spilt her ink.
He walked with Mr Harrison
who liked to eat hot cross buns.
He ran with Miss Crew
who loved the colour blue.
We chose Ms Galloway as our special character and she would say, “A memory is something sweet, my child, a memory is something sweet.”

Hi everyone,
2H came up with some interesting characters. We worked in table groups and created:
Miss Kelly who was a good friend. She thought a memory was something cold.
Mrs Holly.
Miss Sunshine who was good at solving problems. She thought a memory was something wet so Wilfrid took a wet shell to Miss Nancy. This reminded her of swimming at the beach.
Mr Hughes who was a good friend though a memory was something cold. Wilfrid took Miss Nancy and ice block which reminded her of eating ice blocks with her cousins.
Mrs Diamond who was crazy about diamonds thought a memory was something that made you happy.
Mr Harmony who played football thought a memory was something scary. Wilfrid took Miss Nancy a scary movie which reminded her of watching movies at her friend’s house.

Hi fellow rappers,
1/2C did some very hard thinking and created some great new characters in their groups.
Mrs Racket who played tennis thought a memory was something small. Wilfrid took Miss Nancy a tennis ball which reminded her or playing tennis.
Wilfrid got dirty with Mrs Dusty who loved playing in the mud. She thought a memory was something dirty so Wilfrid took Miss Nancy some mud. This reminded her of making mud pies as a little girl.
Mr Kia who told funny jokes thought a memory was something which made you giggle. Wilfrid took Miss Nancy a toy clown which reminded her of going to the circus.
Wilfrid read with Mrs Angel who loved books. She thought a memory was something sweet. Wilfrid took Miss Nancy a photo of himself and this reminded her of all the visits she and Wilfrid have had together.
Wilfrid munched with Mr Tim who loved chocolate. He thought a memory was something crunchy so Wilfrid took Miss Nancy an Easter egg. Miss Nancy remembered all the Easter egg hunts as a child.
Wow – what a lot of fabulous characters we created.

Hello fellow Rapper dudes and dudettes,
1M and 1T brainstormed a list of characters and voted on our favourite. We decided to name our new character Mrs Collins (we have a lovely teacher at CCPS called Mrs Collins. She is not 70 years old… yet!)
Here is a our description.
Mrs Collins is a lively 70 year old lady who enjoys gardening and feeding the birds. Her other favourite pastime is eating chocolate. She is a tall thin lady. She has smooth brown hair with a red headband. She wears a pink top and a navy skirt. Navy sandals are worn every day, except on special occasions when she wears high heels. Mrs Collins likes jewellery and has a set of pearls that she received family for her 70th birthday. Her favourite piece of jewellery is a white gold ring with five diamonds.
Mrs Collins has a great sense of humour and her rosy cheeked face is full of laughter lines. If Wilfrid asked Mrs Collins about memories she would say, “Something that makes you crazy, my friend. Something that makes you crazy.”
The object we chose to represent her memory was face paint because she remembered painting her baby sister’s face like a clown.
Hope you like our character as much as we do.

Hi Fellow Rappers,
2W had lots of discussions about new characters, Mrs Atkins and Mrs Walker were amazed with the students’ suggestions.
We voted for our class favourite:
We thought that Wilfrid Gordon would sing along with Mrs Rianno who loved to play the piano. We thought of several things that could represent Mrs Rianno’s memory such as a musical jewellery box, dancing shoes, a mirror ball and the class favourite: a CD.
We are sure the CD would have all of Mrs Rianno’s favourite songs on it. Of course this memory would make you want to dance.
Some of the other characters students came up with were:-
* Mr Hooks who liked to read books.
* Ms Jumper who liked to sit and knit.
* Mrs Party who was crazy about karate.

Hi everyone
I am posting this message on behalf of Class 2/4G @ Caddies Creek PS.
Hi fellow rappers,
Our special character is Mr Farmer. He is 100 years old! He walks with a stick. He wears striped pants and a shirt, and his gumboots. He use to take care of his animals at his farm. His favourite animal was his dog Hush, who was black and white.
Wilfrid asked Mr Farmer, “What is a memory?’
He replied, “A memory is something which can make you happy, my son, something which can make you happy.”
Wilfrid put a toy dog in his memory box for Miss Nancy. When he gives the toy dog to her, Miss Nancy says, “Aha, I remember now when I use to play with my dog BJ all the time in my backyard.”
Bye for now,

St Luke’s had a great time thinking about the different things older members of our community might like to do for fun!
We decided on having 5 new residents come to live next to Wilfrid. They are:
Mr Crunch who loved to eat salad so Wilfrid would have lunch with him.
Mrs Cook adored books. She and Wilfrid would dream about all those places in the books that they read together.
Mr Hocket loved chocolate (don’t we all)! Wilfrid made sure that he only ate the soft-centred ones!
Mr Pardon loved the garden. Wilfrid would find snails with him.
And our final resident was Mr Bolf. He loved golf and was a little like Mr Tippet. Wilfrid and Mr Bolf would swing anything that looked like a golf club – a towel, a piece of rope, anything!
All the new residents absolutely adored Wilfrid and his thoughtfulness – especially for one so young!

2M at Seven Hills North would like to introduce a few new residents who would like to get to know Wilfrid:
He watched telly with Mrs Kelly who made the best jelly.
He sat with Mrs Brown who always wore a frown.
He laughed with Mr Stokes who told funny jokes.
He practised boxing with Mr Oxin who used to be a champion.
He sang to Mrs Finn who fell in the bin.
Wilfrid would put a jellybaby in the box after meeting Mrs Kelly, and a joke book to help remind Miss Nancy of the jokes she liked as a child.

2P’s Mr Brown
Mr Brown is 82 years old and wears black trousers. He has black/grey hair and a pointy black/grey beard. His ears are elf like. He wears a grey button up long sleeved shirt and wears his favourite old brown jacket that has patches from being worn out. The jacket is initialled with a B for his name. He has white socks with shiny black shoes and a black bowler hat.
Mr Brown enjoys reading books about his favourite pastime (chocolate) with his reading glasses and green eyes. He is reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the moment. He has shiny white teeth because he carries his toothbrush in his jacket pocket to care for his teeth after eating his favourite snacks: chocolate milkshakes. He still wears his wedding ring as a reminder of his deceased wife.
Mr Brown thinks a memory is “something as wonderful as chocolate, my friend, something as wonderful as chocolate.”

Memories that we came up with are mostly teachers in our school and visitors to our class. We have quite a few new people for the nursing home:
Mr Grant who keeps keys on his pants.
We would take a lock and key to remind him of the time he locked himself in the cupboard.
Mrs Venables who likes to eat vegetables.
We would take vegemite sandwiches as she brings them to school a lot to remember eating lunch at school.
Mr Cox who wears stripy socks
We would take a pair of Crocs to visit him as he likes to wear them to school.
Mrs Batkin who always uses a table napkin.
We would take music scores and pink pjs to remind her of playing the piano while we are singing She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain.
Mrs Knight who is scared of the dark.
We would take her a torch so that she remembers that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Mr Cooper who we think is super.
We would take him a megaphone to remind him of all his great speeches at assemblies.
Mrs Ware who has very long hair.
We would take a copy of the book Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge so that she can remember that we did this book rap with her help.
Mrs Symons who always wears diamonds.
We would bring her some music to dance to as she is a great dancer.
Miss Smith who likes to eat chips.
We would bring her a photo of our class to remind her of all the great times we had together in class and a roll of masking tape to make loops to hang the photo on the wall, just like she did in our classroom.

Hello everyone!
We had fun trying to make rhyming characters. We thought it would be fun to write limericks about the people in the old people’s home. We wrote:
Coming to the home was Miss Doyle
Who brought with her some soil,
She loved to garden
And always said pardon.
Pressed flowers made her toil.
Also living in the home was Miss Polly
She really liked to lick lollies,
She decorated cakes
She baked and baked.
Her daughter’s name was Molly.

Hello everyone,
We have created a character called Ms Bess who likes to play chess. She is an 81 year old, Scottish woman, who is lean and wears a kilt.
She plays chess with Wilfrid and lets him win at times. She loves to play the bagpipes and is good friends with Miss Nancy.
Miss Bess told Wilfrid in her sweet, Scottish voice that a memory is something that makes you shine.
Wilfrid found a shiny silver star to give to Miss Nancy. When he gave her the star she remembered the time she went camping with her sister and parents and they all saw a shooting star.
