    Hello Rappers!

Welcome to the “Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge” Book Rap! My name is Mr McLean, teacher librarian at Penrith Public School. Together with Mrs Scheffers, teacher librarian at Caddies Creek PS, I will be coordinating this book rap.

We hope you enjoy taking part in this exciting online discussion about the wonderful picture book, “Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge”. It’s one of my favourite books! Mrs Scheffers and I are looking forward to reading your interesting and clever ideas about this book!

The Book Rap pages are live for viewing and subscribing (at no cost) the week of 18 February 2008. The Rap itself starts 25 February 2008.

Meanwhile, each group participating in the rap needs to work together to write a short introduction about your class and school. Please tell us a few details about your school. For example, you may wish to write about the size and location of your school, the uniform and emblem, or anything that makes your school special. Your teacher or teacher librarian will then post your introduction to the rap blog, under this Introductions tab.

Then you can enjoy reading all the other introductions as they begin to appear here on the Rap Blog. Your class may wish to plot the locations of other rapping schools on a Rap Map (templates are available on the book rap site) or try using Google Maps or Whereis.com

Your teachers and teacher librarians are encouraged to visit the Teachers section regularly (see the Teachers tab along the top of this web page.

We look forward to rapping with you all! Mrs Scheffers will be along very soon to introduce herself.

    Mr McLean,
Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge Book Rap Coordinator

    PS.Logging in to Edublogs
When teachers and teacher librarians first log in to the “Edublogs” site, they should be aware that the user name they choose for themselves will appear each time they post a blog message. For example, my “Edublogs” user name is “ianmclean”, but I could have chosen “mrmclean” or “class2z” or “penrithbloggers” instead.

“Edublogs” is a free blogging service from “Wordpress” for legitimate educational purposes. “Edublogs” suggests caution if using a school-related email address, because you’ll need to acknowledge receipt of your welcome message before your first post; sometimes that email may be blocked by a firewall. School email addresses have been unblocked for NSW DET schools; in those schools, if your receipt goes to a free email address, such as “”Hotmail”, that mail service may well be blocked by the firewall.

Please let us know if you have any difficulties.

Hello from the Penrith PS Rappers!

We are eight students in SCLB at Penrith Public School. Some of us are in Early Stage One and some are in Stage 1. Our teacher is Mrs Brady and our teacher-librarian is Mr McLean. We come to the library every Thursday and Friday.

Penrith is on the edge of western Sydney, on the way to the Blue Mountains. Our school has 397 students from K-6.

We love book rapping. Some of us did the “Possum Magic” book rap last year. We can’t wait to rap about Wilfrid. (Did you see the hen hiding under the chair on the cover?)

    Hi fellow rappers
What an exciting book rap adventure we are all going to share over the next few weeks!

For this week’s introductory activitiy, rappers are asked to send a short introductory class message about their class and provide information about their school and its location. It wil be so interesting to learn how our schools are similar and also different!

Post your class introduction to the rap blog once your teacher has approved the final message. Your class might wish to respond to the introductions from other rappers via the rap blog.

After reading other schools’ introductions, you may like to locate schools on a Rap map.

Well done to the clever rappers from Penrith PS, Miranda North PS, St Michaels, St Lukes, the Kemblawarra Kids and the Churchie rappers from East Brisbane who have already posted their introductions! It’s great to have schools from all across Australia taking part!

I look foward to reading other classes’ introductions.

    Hello friends from other schools,

We are a group of mainly Year 2 students at Penrith Public School, plus a few Year 1 students. Going west, Penrith is halfway between Sydney city and Katoomba in the Blue Mountains.

Our school uniform is blue, white and red. We have nearly 400 students in our school.

We are very excited to do this book rap on the Rap Blog. Our teacher librarian, Mr McLean, told us that ‘blog’ was short for ‘web log’. The blog sounds like it will be a bit like S1I’s class diary called ‘The Adventures of Cranky the Crocodile’ because each entry will have a different time or date.

    Penrith goes forward with pride!

We are the blue sea rappers from Manly Village Public School in Sydney, New South Wales. Our class is a composite extension class with 26 students in years 2 and 1. We have 11 girls and 15 boys. Our teacher’s name is Ms Bailey and we are doing this book rap with our Teacher Librarian, Mrs Neill.
From our classroom windows we can see the ocean which is only 100 metres away. Our school is between the ocean and Sydney harbour.
The beach is used a lot for student activities such as: the K-2 beach carnival where we have lots of races and games; the 3-6 cross country carnival; and the primary students have surfing, kayaking, sailing and beach volleyball.
As Manly is a famous tourist destination, we have lots of tourists standing at the fences watching
the children play. Manly also has lots of restaurants, cafes and outdoor eating areas, so many families eat out regularly.
There is a regular ferry service to the city which is used by working parents and classes going on excursions.
This year is a very special year for our school as we are celebrating the sesquicentenary – we will be 150 years old in September.

    How are you?

We are class 2T from Caddies Creek Public School (CCPS). There are 14 boys and 10 girls in our class. Mr Tudberry is our perfect teacher. Everyone enjoys reading, playing sport with Mr Hynes, going to the computer lab, coming to the library and having special visitors to our school.

Our class really likes the character Wilfrid because he has four names like two of us. We like the part where Wilfrid collects some of his special things to show Miss Nancy to help her find her memory.

Class 2T is feeling very excited and happy to be taking part in the book rap. We are enjoying writing and reading the introductions and feel a bit jealous about those schools that are near the beach.

We are going to wrap it up now and we’ll rap with you later.

The school is split up into two parts. We are on the infants site and because of this we can only visit the library one day a week.
In our classroom, we have a ’stamp dragon’. Everytime we are all good we put a stamp on the dragon. We have 17 stamps already! We need 20, 40 or 60 stamps to get a reward.
We have 4 computers, and an empty tank – ready to put some Axolotols in. We have lots of books, we enjoy reading. We have signs in our class which label things to help us read and write.
Our school is 2 and a half hours south of Sydney. We are in the Shoalhaven, which is near the beach and near the mountains. We have a salt water river running between Nowra and Bomaderry, the river is called Shoalhaven River.
Our class thinks Wilfrid Gorden is a sad book with a happy ending. We are looking forward to this book rap, because we have never talked to children all over Australia and this will be a great opportunity.

Caddies Creek is a very multicultural school with over 70 nationalities represented. We love learning about all our different cultures.

Our classes enjoy drawing, playing on our large oval, using the many computers at our school and learning to read. 1T and 1M’s demountable classrooms are next to each other at the back of the school.

We look forward to rapping with you all.

Our teacher is Ms Campbell and she is very neat and we love her. We have two wombats called Crikey and CJ. We take them home and write stories every night.

  47.   ianmclean Says:

Here we are with another batch of welcomes to the enthusiastic rappers from Belmont, Nowra, Glenhaven, Jindabyne, Manly village, Eastern Creek and Arncliffe Public Schools. I hope I haven’t left anyone out. Sometimes older messages arrive onscreen in batches while I’m typing.

I’m especially excited to see Arncliffe join the rap, as I used to go to Arncliffe Public School as a student way back when Apollo 11 landed on the moon! When I first went to Arncliffe, the library was upstairs in the building alongside Princess Highway, and then when I used to visit as a teacher it had moved to a room that was the old assembly hall.

I have lots of happy memories about your school; I hope I never forget them like poor Miss Nancy. (Do you still have a little leather-bound book of students’ poetry in the library called “Just One More”? I have a poem in there.)

There are lots of schools doing a book rap for the first time. We hope you have a great time rapping about “Wilfrid” and Miss Nancy.

    Dear Rappers,

We have 4 classes and 86 children in our school. We’re across the road from where some of the Wadi Wadi people live. They are the tradtional owners of our area. Some of them come to our school. The school is in Port Kembla which is in Wollongong in NSW. Down the road is Warrawong shops and Lake Illawarra. (The northern side of the lake – Warilla North are on the southern side)

We are mainly in 1/2/3W. We liked the story, especially when Wilfrid Gordon helped Miss Nancy remember. And the pictures.

We are class 2M at Caddies Creek Public School. Our teacher is Miss McSeveny and there are 25 students in our class. We like to do art, borrowing books from the library, doing homework, handwriting and maths. Our classroom is neat and tidy and we always try to do our best work.

Class 2M likes “Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge” because Wilfrid is kind and smart. We like the part where Wilfrid helped give Miss Nancy her memory back. We think the book has marvellous illustrations by Julie Vivas and is well written by Mem Fox.

    Hello everyone!

Thank you for all the great introductions!

“Edublogs” seems to have been revamping the main site this week. I noticed today that instead of the “Click to change your avatar…” link, it said “Grab your own edublog to have an avatar”. Maybe they are restricting the number of users having avatars?

Nowra rappers: I’m glad you solved yesterday’s problem with logging in. Your lyrebird avatar is working! Some avatars are still showing up here as a solid black square. Maybe some schools aren’t using the right kind of jpeg or gif? (There’s a warning on the avatar page that animated graphics don’t work. Neither do many graphics designed to use in word processing documents.)

Also, sometimes you may need to refresh a page to see all the new messages. Just now, my browser was showing only up to yesterday’s messages, but when I finished logging in and “refreshed” (ie. hold down the “Shift” key on your keyboard while pressing “Enter”), all the new messages appeared down the bottom of the page. If you can’t see the rectangle to write your message in, you’re not logged in properly.

Don’t forget to click on the tab called “Rap Point 1″ at the top of the web page to start entering your responses to Rap Point 1.

    G’day book rappers!

We are 2B our teacher is Mr Buchan, we have 24 students in our class, 12 boys and 12 girls. Nowra public school is a split site school with K-2 on the top infant site and 3-6 on the bottom primary site. However, our classroom is down on the primary site, we have been kicked out of the infants site, because there is too many kinders! Each day we go back up to infants to have lunch and play with our mates.

The best things about being on Primary site, is there is a canteen, the library is close, the school hall and we get to see our older brothers and sisters.

Our favourite things to do in class are maths, colouring in, arts and craft, playing inside and spelling.

The best thing about Nowra is our swimming pools, the ocean, all the shops, the Australian animals, the good schools and the good doctors.

Talk to you next week, Adios! 2B

    Hello book rappers!

We are 1/2L, our teacher is Miss Williams we have 24 students, 12 year 1s and 12 year 2s.
We have lots of books in our library, and lots of teachers at our school.

We have been waiting for 5 weeks for a new classroom. But meantime, we are living in the multi-purpose room on the infants site. We don’t have a blackboard, we have a white board. Our room is bigger than normal classrooms. When it is wet our room turns into a wet-weather room for all the infants.

We like doing arts, maths, reading groups and handwriting. We make lots of friends and play with each other a lot, we believe in being friendly with everyone.

Our school has 24 classes altogether. The new classroom has arrived and we should be moving in on Monday – next time we talk to you we should be in our new room!

    Howdy rappers,

We are class 2P from Caddies Creek Public School. Our school is in Western Sydney very close to the Indian Sikh temple. There are 25 students in our class (11girls and 14 boys) and our teacher is the most gorgeous Mrs Plummer. For most of us this is our 2nd book rap. In our classroom we have a Thomas Train set, 3 computers, Lego box and connector straws.

Our school emblem is of a creek with the year 2003 because that is when our school opened. We have a large selection of uniforms to buy including dresses, shorts, skirts, clothes, t-shirts and skorts (shorts that look like a skirt). At our Friday assemblies special awards are given and parents are always invited to attend.

We are excited and proud to be participating in the book rap about Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge. We practically like the characters in the story especially Mr Tippett who is crazy about cricket and Wilfrid. After researching the book we found out that Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is named after Mem Fox’s father and grandfather.

A belated welcome to 1W at Nowra PS and K/1?2 at Yerong Creek PS. I’m glad you could make it.

Many schools are up to Rap Point 2 this week, but you are welcome to keep posting to Rap Point 1, and to visit the Wilfrid Wiki page for that rap point, to check out the colourful display of items which represent our class memories? It looks great.

Just remember to post all your Rap Responses under the matching horizontal tabs.

    Happy rapping!

We are joining late although we have been following the rap closely and doing the activities. We are a year two class from St John Vianney’s School which is a bay side school in Brisbane. There are 28 children in our clase and an even mixture of boys and girls. We are doing the rap with our librarian, Mrs Boddington and our class teacher, Mrs Bednall. One of the lovely ladies that help in our school made a beautiful basket of all the things that Wilfrid Gordon collected.

We love the story of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge.

Hello Rappers at St John Vianney’s School. It’s great to hear from you.
Can you take a photograph of your basket filled with Wilfrid’s memories collection and post it on the blog or the wiki? We’d love to see it.
    Happy rapping,
    Mrs Keane

    Hi Wilfrid Rappers,

We are classes K/6A and 2D at Caddies Creek Public School.
Our awesome school has a large library with lots of books, Mrs Scheffers (Happy 21st Birthday Mrs S!!!) and a data projector with a SmartBoard. Miss Denzel is the lovely teacher of 2D and Mrs Alekna is the sensational teacher for K/6A. K/6A has a lovely playground which we have been lucky enough to share with them. It has slides, climbing equipment and lots of monkey bars. We also enjoy using the computers around the school in both our classes and in a computer lab. Later this year, we are looking forward to having some special visitors during Book Week.

Last year, we participated in the Possum Magic rap and we enjoyed it so much we want to have fun participating in the Wilfrid Gordon Rap this year. Last week, we watched the DVD of Wilfrid Gordon which features Mem Fox telling the story to us. We also did an author study on Mem Fox and found out lots of interesting things about her.

Everyone is feeling very excited about doing the Rap with you. We are looking forward to reading our fellow Rappers’ points of view.

    Rap with you soon,

    From the 2D-elightful Rappers and K/6 A-dorable Rappers @ C.C.P.S.

    Dear Rappers,

Hello, we are Grade 1-2 KS from Manorvale Primary School. We have 23 children, 13 girls and 10 boys, in our class. Manorvale is in Werribee, Victoria. We have 532 students in our school. Our class teacher is Ms Saleh and our teacher-librarian is Mr Giblin. Our school uniform colours are blue and yellow. We are writing our school introduction but all Grade 1/2s will be helping with the rap.

Last Tuesday (26/2) we held the launch for the Olympic BKZone (Boxing Kangaroo) website. We had the Deputy Prime Minister and Olympic athletes at our school. We were on the news.

We are all new to book raps and blogs. We are excited to share ideas about Wilfrid with other children around Australia and the world.

Welcome to all our latest rapping schools! Hello to St John Vianney’s of Brisbane, more classes from Caddies Creek PS, Winthrop PS of Perth, the Thornie rappers near Hornsby and Manor Vale PS of Werribee.

We hope you enjoy rapping with us.

It would have been an exciting time at Manor Vale PS recently. What fun to have such a great Olympic preview!

I was at Punchbowl PS (in Sydney) when our school helped in the campaign to have Sydney made a contender to host the Sydney Olympic Games for 2000, and we had a gala sports day with Olympic visitors who were making the secret vote. The highlight of the day was when our Principal, who had a real English accent, dressed up as Queen Elizabeth II and was driven around the oval in a Combi van, doing a royal wave out of the window! Some students thought the Queen had really come to Punchbowl! That was a special memory our students and teachers will remember forever.

    Best wishes, Mr McLean
